A Surprise Proposal With Heath & Makayla
Capturing love is what I do, but when Heath reached out to me with a plan to propose to Makayla, I knew this was going to be something special. His email was simple—he needed my help to make this proposal unforgettable. And I was all in! As soon as I read his email, I started brainstorming the perfect setup. Knowing Makayla recently modeled for a Cowhide and Conchos shoot, I decided we could stage this as another “content day” with the boutique to keep her unsuspecting. Heath loved the idea, and Cowhide and Conchos was excited to join in on the surprise!
On October 6th, 2024, Amber, Drew, and I met up for a quick lunch before the big setup. We discussed the plan, swapped some jewelry, and got all the final details in place. I then headed over to Makayla’s parents’ house, where she had been planning outfits for the “content shoot.” She was thrilled to show me her ideas, and I was loving every single look she had lined up. Her excitement was contagious, and we kicked off the shoot with her in the cutest jean skirt paired with Cowhide and Conchos jewelry—western vibes on point.
Now, here’s where the plot thickens. Heath texted me to ask when he should arrive, and meanwhile, Makayla called him, playfully scolding him for missing the shoot because (I needed a male figure for this shoot and horses for content.) I had him hang back a little, as she wanted to incorporate her horses, which meant a few minor hiccups (one of which involved a stubborn saddle). I had to laugh as Heath whispered to me, “Do we really need the horses?” But we stayed calm, capturing some beautiful shots while waiting for the perfect moment.
As the sun began to set, I felt a tiny bit of panic—time was ticking! I eventually told Makayla that we should skip saddling the horses and head to my dad’s pasture instead. Heath and I drove ahead, and I filled him in on the plan. Once Makayla arrived, I got her and Heath in position, holding hands, with the beautiful golden light behind them. It was time.
After a few warm-up poses, Heath pulled his hand away, and Makayla, confused, asked him to hold it again. She turned around, and the look on her face was priceless—a mix of shock, joy, and overwhelming emotion. For a few moments, she was speechless, just taking it all in. And then, of course, she said yes!
This day was everything: from playing content creator and coordinating the details, to witnessing a once-in-a-lifetime moment for these two. Despite a few hiccups and the fading daylight, we pulled it off. The surprise was a success, and I couldn’t have been happier to capture this incredible memory for Heath and Makayla.
