A Senior Year Worth Remembering
Senior year is more than a countdown to graduation, it’s a season of growth, grit, and becoming. Jolie’s session captured not just where she’s headed, but the places and people that helped her get there.
We photographed her at her home and family ranch, a place I’m always excited to shoot because it’s layered with real life, real memories, and the kind of quiet confidence you can’t fake in a studio. This wasn’t just a senior session. It was a chapter of Jolie’s story, documented exactly where it’s been unfolding. Jolie, or “Joe” if you know her well, is a senior at Wayne Community High School, graduating May 10, 2026. From the first message to the final gallery, this session reflected what I love most about senior photography: honoring who they are right now, not just who they’re becoming.
A Session That Felt Like Her
Before every senior session, I send a questionnaire. Not because I’m nosy (okay, maybe a little), but because the best photos come from knowing the person behind the smile. Jolie’s answers told me everything I needed to know. She’s a barrel racer who finished 6th in the state for IHSRA, an orange-loving thrifter with a soft spot for sushi, puppies named Teeter and Charles, and her barrel horse Peewee. She loves art class, hates the high school atmosphere, and values the teachers who helped her push through. She’s grounded, driven, and has a heart for people, with plans to become an ER nurse someday. That’s not just a list. That’s a personality. And my job is to translate that into images that feel like her. So we leaned into what matters. The ranch. The movement. The confidence. The calm moments between poses. The laughter that sneaks in when you’re not trying too hard.
Why Location Matters
Shooting at Jolie’s home and family ranch wasn’t just convenient, it was intentional. When seniors are photographed in places that already feel like theirs, the walls come down. Shoulders relax. Expressions soften. The result is photos that don’t feel stiff or overly posed, but honest and timeless. That’s something I prioritize with every senior I work with. Your session should feel like you, not like you’re borrowing someone else’s personality for an hour.
More Than Photos
One of my favorite parts of Jolie’s questionnaire was her advice to underclassmen: “Be a friend to everyone. You don’t know what they are going through.”
That mindset showed up throughout her session. Quiet confidence. Kind presence. Strength without needing to prove it. These are the things I’m always watching for behind the lens.
And her favorite quote says it all: “Overthinking will kill your peace, pray and leave it to God, for He cares about you.”
There’s depth there. Faith. Perspective. And those are the kinds of qualities that make senior sessions meaningful long after graduation day.
