Some senior sessions are about outfits. Some are about locations. This one was about vibe.
Think edgy western with a girly twist. Boots with attitude. Confidence without trying too hard.
Taylor Dorbeck’s senior session was built around who she is in this exact season of life. Strong-willed, funny, competitive, and unapologetically herself.
I’ve known Taylor from a past Dorbeck family session, and I’ll say it again: that family is my kind of people. So getting to spend the day focused solely on Taylor, her vision, and her senior year felt extra special.
Before every senior session, I send out a questionnaire because the best photos come from knowing the person, not just the poses. Taylor’s answers told me everything I needed to know.
She’s a Mercer R-III senior with a graduation date set for April 21, 2026, and a summer birthday just around the corner. Her world revolves around breakaway roping, barrel racing, pole bending, chips and queso, teal accents, and a sense of humor that does not miss. Her greatest accomplishment? IRA 2021 Horse of the Year. Her advice to underclassmen? “If you’re going to be late, be really late and take food.”
And her favorite quote sealed the deal:
“I have to be successful because I like expensive things.”
Iconic behavior.
The day itself was… a little chaotic in the best way. It was hella windy. Kinda cold. And just sketchy enough to be fun.
We bounced between multiple locations to match Taylor’s vision, leaning into that edgy western feel while keeping things fun and feminine. One of the spots involved a gas station backdrop. Which led to a full debate between us about who was going to ask permission to shoot there. Logic said it should be me. Reality said, “Taylor, this is your town. You know these people.”After a short standoff, we both knocked on the door together and got the okay. Small-town wins for the win.Between the wind, the cold, and laughing through it all, the session never felt stiff or forced. It felt real. And that’s exactly how senior photos should feel.
This wasn’t just a photo shoot. It was a snapshot of senior year energy.
Celebrating friendships, accomplishments, and everything she’s built so far.
Senior year is one of those milestones where you’re standing between what’s been and what’s coming next. And Taylor stepped into that space with confidence, humor, and a whole lot of grit.
Taylor, I seriously cannot wait to see what life has in store for you. You’re strong-willed, funny, and completely your own person.
Keep chasing the things that light you up, keep riding hard, and keep being exactly who you are.
